The outermost layer of Earth's atmosphere is called the exosphere. This layer extends from the thermosphere out to about 10,000 kilometers above the Earth’s surface. In the exosphere, atmospheric particles are so sparse that they can travel hundreds of kilometers without colliding with one another. It plays a vital role in space weather and the transition between the Earth's atmosphere and outer space.
