The structure that protects the brain is called the skull, or cranium. The skull functions as a bony shield against physical damage and trauma. Additionally, the meninges, which are three protective membranes, and cerebrospinal fluid further cushion and support the brain. Together, these structures help maintain the brain's integrity and facilitate its functions within the central nervous system.
