James Hoban is the famous architect of the White House. Born in Ireland, Hoban won a design competition in 1792 for the presidential residence in Washington, D.C. His neoclassical design blended elements of Palladian architecture, which was quite popular at the time. Construction of the White House began in October 1792 and was completed in 1800, coinciding with John Adams's presidency. Initially called the "President's House," it was later renamed the White House. Hoban's design has undergone various renovations over the years but still retains the quintessential features that define its iconic appearance today.
