Sun's ideology, often referred to as the "Three Principles of the People" (nationalism, democracy, and people's livelihood), aimed to modernize China and improve its social and political conditions. Following his death in 1925, his legacy was carried on by his successor, Chiang Kai-shek, who led the party through its struggle against both warlords and the communist movement in China.
