The Confederate Army during the American Civil War was led by General Robert E. Lee. A graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, Lee became one of the most prominent military figures in American history. He was appointed Commander of the Army of Northern Virginia, leading several significant battles during the Civil War. His strategic acumen and leadership earned him respect, even among his adversaries. Despite his initial successes, Lee ultimately surrendered to Union General Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox Court House in April 1865, marking the end of the Civil War.
