The ancient structure built as a tomb for the Pharaohs is the Great Pyramid of Giza. Constructed during the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom, around 2580–2560 BCE, it was built for Pharaoh Khufu (Cheops). The pyramid, originally standing at about 481 feet, was the tallest man-made structure in the world for over 3,800 years. It exemplifies the incredible engineering skills of the ancient Egyptians and their beliefs in the afterlife. The Great Pyramid is part of a complex that includes smaller pyramids and the Sphinx and continues to be a source of fascination and study in archaeology and history.
