Who was the first to circumnavigate the globe? 🔊
The first person to circumnavigate the globe was Ferdinand Magellan, a Portuguese explorer. Although he did not complete the journey himself, as he was killed in the Philippines before the expedition concluded, his voyage from 1519 to 1522 marked the first successful navigation around the Earth. Magellan's fleet set out with the aim of finding a westward route to the Spice Islands, and during the journey, they encountered numerous challenges, including treacherous waters and conflicts with indigenous peoples. Ultimately, one of his ships, the Victoria, returned to Spain, successfully completing the historic circumnavigation.
