The world’s largest land animal is the African elephant. Adult males can weigh up to 12,000 pounds (5,443 kilograms) and stand as tall as 13 feet (4 meters) at the shoulder. African elephants are distinguished by their large ears, which help dissipate heat, and their long trunks, which serve multiple purposes, including feeding, drinking, and social interaction. They mostly inhabit savannas, forests, and deserts across various countries in Africa. Unfortunately, they face threats such as habitat loss and poaching, prompting conservation efforts aimed at protecting these magnificent creatures and their natural environments.
