Significant changes in the UPSC examination format were observed in 2013 with the introduction of a two-stage examination process, comprising the Preliminary and Mains exams, along with the Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT). This shift aimed to assess candidates’ critical thinking and analytical abilities. Further modifications included restructuring the Mains examination pattern in 2016, reducing the number of papers and revising the syllabus. Such alterations reflect the evolving educational standards and focus on a more holistic assessment of candidates’ skills relevant to public administration.
